This Month at CIDER

Welcome

On behalf of The Fundacion Santa Fe de Bogota Center for Interactive Digital Education in Radiology (FSFB-CIDER)* I welcome you to our Website.

Our goal is to contribute to the understanding of pulmonary radiology. It is aimed at the medical community at large, and in particular at those junior members in training. The contents of all our Sections are based on the concept of Lifelong Learning.

We are convinced that access to reliable medical knowledge should be freely available on the Internet. No fees will therefore be charged for entering any Section of this Website.

The FSFB-CIDER Website is funded by the Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá and by private corporate or individual donors. The latter three are posted in the Benefactors Section of this Website.

The FSFB-CIDER Website does not accept advertisements, nor does it share visitor information with third parties.

AUGUST Editorial

The answer to the JULY Case of the Month is:
PULMONARY INVOLVEMENT OF HIV+ ASSOCIATED KAPOSI SARCOMA.

The AUGUST Case
of the Month is that of an18 y.o. woman with general malaise, dry cough and spiking fever (100º F) of six weeks duration. The patient was diagnosed and treated with chemotherapy for Hodgkins lymphoma in 2005. She had been asymptomatic ever since, and her yearly follow up chest CT examinations had all been normal.

At FSFB-CIDER we are in the process of updating our e-Book Pulmonary Radiology: Basic Concepts. This month’s Show and Tell Section presents the new chapter on
PULMONARY PATTERNS.

We invite you to enter the e-Book Section and Navigate the first SEVEN Chapters published of this 2nd Edition of our e-Book.

If you have an iPhone/iPod Touch, a Blackberry Storm, or an Android (Gphone) you will be able to access the Case of the Month Section at our address www.fsfbcider.org. For iPhone/iPod owners (Click) on the Mobile Phone Section for further instructions.

Lifelong Learning

All our programs at CIDER are based on the Lifelong Learning process. Lifelong Learning insures the solid acquisition of knowledge. It places the student in the center of the learning adventure, and makes him responsible for his education. The exacting tutor becomes a mentor to the student. Emphasis shifts from memorizing facts to understanding concepts. “Solo cramming”, and competitive testing are replaced by expressive sharing, and self-evaluation. The concept of Lifelong Learning is no stranger to medicine. Abraham Flexner’s writings(1), and The Yale System of Medical Education(2), are early Twentieth Century examples.
